Marley family donates works to National Library
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The family of reggae icon Bob Marley has donated a collection of books to the National Library of Jamaica.
The items include: Marijuana Man (Ziggy Marley); The Boy From Nine Miles; 56 Thoughts; Cooking with Herb; One Love (Cedella Marley); Harambe for the Holidays; and No Woman No Cry (Rita Marley).
According to a statement from the Rita Marley Foundation, the donation was made after it was recognised last year that the institution lacked Marley family publications, with the only book in its collection being Rita Marley’s autobiography, No Woman No Cry.
Commenting on the donation, CEO at National Library of Jamaica, Beverley Lashley said: “It is a great honour to receive a collection of Marley family books, as those are important for the future of Jamaica. The Marleys are legends and to have their writings at the National Library of Jamaica not only strengthens our collection, but also makes it more accessible to future generations.”
The National Library and the Rita Marley Foundation first began collaboration in July 2018 for the presentation of the foundation’s fifth annual essay competition.
