Stranger Danger now five from five
Stranger Danger’s continues to show progress as the American-bred three-year-old dark bay gelding produced another significant run to win an Open Allowance event on Wednesday (April 3, 2019).
The Wayne DaCosta trainee defeated Drummer Boy and Houdini’s Magic by 5 lengths in the three-year-old and upward event over one mile (1,600m).
Stranger Danger, therefore, kept his unbeaten record intact as he is now five from five since opening his account on October 20, 2018 over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m). Bred by Buffum – Casual Kiss, Stranger Danger posted a final time of 1:38.0 with splits of 24.1, 46.3 and 1:11.2.
“Hard to say how good the performance was because he was running against a poor field other than Houdini’s Magic, who was the only true top-class horse in the race. The rest of the other horses were just average.
“The time of 1:38.0 for a mile was pretty good but he was only carrying 52.0 kilogrammes, so it is hard to draw a line now but he is happy and he has been improving at exercise, so we will see where we take it from here,” DaCosta stated.
“ Houdini’s Magic is a leader and we couldn’t let him lead unperturbed because that horse’s heart gets big when he is in front, so we basically decided to take him on from early and he ( Stranger Danger) really acquitted himself,” DaCosta added.
Commenting on the next assignment for Stranger Danger, DaCosta said: “There is a nine-furlong and 25-yard race at the end of the month but we are not quite sure as yet if we are going there. Let’s see what we have for next month before we make a decision. I think he will hold his own at the top level but it won’t be easy running against Will In Charge, Bigdaddykool and She’s A Maneater as those are tough genuine top-class horses and he still has a little to go to reach his true potential.”
Ridden for the first time by Omar Walker and with the blinkers off, Stranger Danger disputed the early fractions along with Winter Is Coming (Abigail Able) and Houdini’s Magic (Shane Ellis).
The two then distanced themselves from the field down the backstretch.
With a half-mile (800m) to run, Stranger Danger began to pull away from Houdini’s Magic and the far-striding gelding just went on his way to another impressive victory.
