Fyah 1Bad keeps it real
With songs like USD and Wicked and Ting making noise in the underground, deejay Fyah 1Bad hopes to save the integrity of dancehall music. The Angels, Spanish Town-based artiste is concerned that most of his peers are mixing the sound with overseas pop.
“I consider myself the dancehall deal-breaker and I want to change the face of dancehall. I am coming with authentic dancehall music. All these new artistes are coming with trap music and hip-hop, but the people want authentic dancehall for what it is,” he shared. “I am coming with a new style, new flavour, and creative lyrics that make sense. I don’t want to do the typical songs. My songs resonate with the mind and soul and have a lasting effect.”
The former Jose Marti Technical High School student has worked closely with I-Q Music, a company from Wynters Pen in Spanish Town, and 1Bad Entertainment. So far, they have produced Club Banger, his debut song, USD and Wicked and Ting.
“I’ve always been writing lyrics. I always envisioned writing for movies, television commercials or even writing books. I never thought of getting into music. I was encouraged by persons who thought my lyrics had a musical effect,” Fyah 1Bad said.
Fyah 1Bad (given name Quewayne Campbell) works at a call centre in Portmore.
