TIME has gone by quickly and within the blink of an eye, the Classic races are ready to be decided after months of preparation and anxiety by many hopeful connections. The first of the lot, the fillies only 1000 Guineas sponsored by Supreme Ventures Limited is set for tomorrow, Saturday, April 13 at the accustomed venue, Caymanas Park.

Twelve of the best three-year-old fillies are entered for the 1000, which carries a purse of $3.5 million. Only two of the present cohort of apprentices, Reyan Lewis and Christopher Mamdeen, have been able to secure riders in the 1000, a race which does not allow for the claiming of weight.

The Supreme Racing Guide assesses the chances of the 12 runners in the 2019, Jamaica 1000 Guineas run over a mile (1,600 metres) in order of their starting stall allotment.

1 – CASUAL DRINK: (3 b f – Casual Trick – Zacapa) – Started her racing career on September 8 of last year with a bang but has not followed up that victory over 5 ½ furlongs (1:06.4) with a performance of any note in her next four runs. Casual Drink has apparently been hampered by an injury issue and while any number can play in any race, and even given the development three-year-olds can make at this stage of their careers, it is going to be extremely difficult for Casual Drink to turn the tables right now on her more accomplished rivals. Note the tongue tie is now on. GALLOPED 5 ½ FURLONGS IN 1:10.4 ON SUNDAY LAST.

2 – I AM DI ONE: (3 b f – Adore The Gold – It Is I) – Very interesting entry. I Am Di One has raced only once (March 23), winning easily over 6 furlongs and during that first outing displayed all the credentials of being a good horse in the making. I Am Di One gave the distinct impression that she is going to be quite at home with the distance of eight furlongs, even though she is going two furlongs longer tomorrow. The only issue with I Am Di One is her lack of experience running against some seasoned rivals. Nevertheless, I Am Di One is going to be a factor and is highly rated by her rider, Simon Husbands. I Am Di One looked real good in her last gallop before this race. GALLOPED SIX FURLONGS IN 1:13.0 ON SUNDAY LAST.

3 – LADY BLUE: (3 ch f – Blue Pepsi Lodge – The Vibes Lady) – The recent heroine of the 7-furlong Thornbird Stakes, Lady Blue in the early part of her six-race career was mainly treated as a good sprinter but of late she has been showing signs that she might be able to get a mile. Lady Blue has raced two times this year and has won twice and has developed nicely, plus she is tough and resilient and is going to have a say in the outcome of the season’s first Classic race. More than likely Lady Blue is going to lead or be very close to the pace before making a bid with three furlongs to go. GALLOPED 7 FURLONGS IN 1:28.2 ON SATURDAY MORNING LAST.

4 – FORMAL FASHION: (3 ch f – Blue Pepsi Lodge – Onemorefashion) – Formal Fashion is the only maiden in the 1000 and while it is not beyond the realms of possibility that this filly can win, to do so would contravene all the handicapping rules of handicapping.

5 – PRINCESS LAUREN: (3 ch f – Soul Warrior – Lipstick Lily) – Developed the habit of breaking slowly in her first two races but seems to have dealt with that malady in the Thornbird Stakes when she finished third behind Lady Blue and Princess Ava some 6/12 lengths adrift of the winner. Princess Lauren weakened a bit in the Thornbird according to the official past performance notes and now going a furlong longer may find it harder to land this coveted Classic race. Princess Lauren has only race three times and may not have shown the best she can offer as yet. GALLOPED 6-FURLONGS IN 1:16.2 ON SUNDAY.

6 – ENVISAGED: (3 gr f – Fearless Vision – Alpha Lupa) – Was able to win her maiden race just seven days ago. Envisaged is the most experienced among the 12 starters with a career record of nine starts. She is going to be hard pressed to get the better of these but one thing is for sure, Envisaged is going to get the distance of a mile quite easily.

7 – SOUL CURE: (3 b f – Soul Warrior – Sure To Cure) – Does not enter this Classic event with any noticeable performance that could boost her credentials. Soul Cure is the winner of one of four races and in this one, faces the hard task of winning. Yet, she is entered and anything can happen. Note the tongue tie has been taken off. GALLOPED 6 FURLONGS ON MONDAY OF THIS WEEK IN A TIME OF 1:17.0.

8 – PRINCESS ANNIE: (3.b. f – Northern Giant – Millennium Princess) – Has raced seven times in her career with only one victory to show for it. Princess Annie has always given the impression that she prefers to go long but in recent times has been faltering over distances shorter than a mile race. Princess Annie is, however, entered and as such has a chance of winning albeit a rather slim one.

9 – PRINCESS AVA: (3 b f – Mine Over Matter – Exotic Selection) – Has had three starts to date, winning the second time of asking over the Guineas trip of a mile, making her the only horse in tomorrow’s line-up to have achieved such a feat. Princess Ava was closing well in the Thornbird (seven furlongs) and ended just two lengths behind the winner, Lady Blue. In that race, Princess Ava carried 110 lb and Lady Blue 119 lb, now they are at level weights with the handicap advantage going to Lady Blue. In a lot of these races handicap advantage can mean everything, but in the Classic races, handicaps can mean little or nothing, as three-year-olds are known to make improvements quite quickly. Princess Ava has a good chance as any of winning. GALLOPED 6 FURLONGS ON SUNDAY IN A TIME OF 1:13.4 BEATEN BY I AM DI ONE.

10 – SWEET LIKE SUGAR: (3 b f – Traditional – Trippi’s Greatstar) – Has been performing well to hit the board in her three starts to date. Sweet Like Sugar after visiting the winners’ enclosure for the first time on February when competing over 5 ½ furlongs moved to 7 furlongs and was outdone by Sentient and Don Almighty. From that last effort, it appears that Sweet Like Sugar might be hard pressed in dealing with a mile. Let’s wait and see. Note Sweet Like Sugar runs without the tongue tie but with the figure–8 on.

11 – CORAZON: (3 b f – Blue Pepsi Lodge – My Heart Beat) – Has been aimed at this Classic race by her trainer. Corazon is fit and ready to go in this one. She is talented and has the experience to deal with all and sundry here. Corazon comes in with the most wins, four from six starts but was beaten by a rejuvenated Lady Blue in the Thornbird Stakes on March 16. That run can easily be written off as Corazon was obviously not on her best on that particular day. Corazon has the ability to make amends here and is therefore given a glorious chance of winning.

12 – WINX CHOICE: (3 b f – Forest Danger – Hurricane Michelle) – Has been coming along steadily but her task of winning is a daunting one.
