Off with a bang!
ALTHOUGH it is still early to make predictions about his first-time runner Big Bang , trainer Anthony Nunes shared that the horse has good potential after a debut win in a Maiden Condition Race on Saturday, April 6, 2019.
Bred by Itsmyluckyday – Galaxy Miss, Big Bang slammed rivals by 7 lengths over 7 furlongs (1,400m) in a blistering first run, timed at 1:26.3 with splits of 24.2, 48.1 and 1:12.4 for 7 furlongs (1,400m).
It was a performance worthy of attention and although the 2000 Guineas might be too early for this big-striding bay colt, the trainer expects good things from Big Bang in the future as long as he stays healthy and sound.
“Pretty good. The performance was pretty good because we never really trained him hard coming into this race as he is a big, long and immature type of colt and we just gave him enough exercise to get through the race.
“It wasn’t a tough race but he did well. Seems like he has a little bit of ability and so we are really taking our time with him as you can see he is so big and tall. There are no immediate plans at this time, as we are going to take it day by day with him,” Nunes said.
Bloodsweatandtears (Dane Nelson) shot out of the starting gates and assumed the early lead full of running with Out On A Limb (Oneil Scott) and Big Bang chasing.
Approaching the five furlong (1,000m) point of the race, Big Bang slipped down into second place and tried to challenge Bloodsweaatandtears for the lead with both runners distancing themselves from the field in what was a two-horse race.
Coming into the lane, Bloodsweatandtears continued to lead but once jockey Robert Halledeen got Big Bang going the race was pretty much over as the bay colt just accelerated and powered home effortlessly in the end.
Bloodsweatandtears, who tried to make all the running was 3¾ lengths in front of Rohan’s Choice (Daniel Satchell) in second place.
