Actor Boy Awards tonight
The theatre fraternity takes centre stage at this evening’s Actor Boy Awards, scheduled for Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.
The awards, initially slated for April 1, recognises excellence in theatre.
The School of Drama at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts has the largest number of nominations for this year.
The drama school has 26 nods from its three productions: Bellywoman; Bellywoman Bangarang; and Ti Jean & His Brothers.
Bellywoman — 11; Bellywoman Bangarang —eight; while Ti-Jean & His Brothers — seven.
Dredz Productions’ One Blood boasts 12 nominations, while Jambiz Productions’ Romi & Julie and Bellywoman tie with 11 nods.
Producer Fabian Barracks’ comedy Black Sheep has 10 nominations.
Other nominations are: Jeezum Peas — seven; erotic thriller Sugar Daddy — five; and Basil Dawkins’ sequel Maas Matt Comes to Town — five. Bone of Contention also has five nods. The musical Beauty and the Beast goes into the awards night with four nominations. Young & the Wreckless has three nods; As He Watches has two; while What Goes Around has been recognised with a single nomination.
