KINGSTON, Jamaica — New World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, Axel van Trotsenburg, will start a two day visit to Jamaica on April 29.

According to a World Bank release, van Trotsenburg will meet Prime Minister Andrew Holness, as well as key representatives from the private sector, civil society and the youth to discuss the World Bank’s support to the country’s efforts to improve economic and climate resilience, as well as strengthen human capital and provide opportunities for young people.

During his first visit to Jamaica, he will affirm the World Bank’s commitment to continued support of the government’s efforts to promote sustainable growth for all Jamaicans, said the organisation.

Van Trotsenburg , who will be accompanied by Tahseen Sayed, World Bank’s Country Director for the Caribbean and Galina Sotirova, Country Manager for Jamaica will be visiting the animation lab at the University of Technology (UTECH) supported by the World bank under the Youth Employment in the Digital & Animation Industries (YEDAI) project.

He will have discussions with young entrepreneurs including at-risk youth benefitting from the Bank-funded Housing, Opportunity Production & Employment (HOPE) Program, the release said.

The World Bank Group has been a strong partner for Jamaica over the past 55 years, providing over US$ 3 billion in loan and grant financing over the years.
