Weekly Round-up: Split over NIDS… 2-y-o killed in hit-and-run…. Windies names WC squad

KINGSTON, Jamaica — It was reported on Thursday that almost two weeks after the Constitutional Court struck down the National Identification and Registration Act, the Andrew Holness Administration is still to decide on its next course of action amid reports of a split in the Cabinet over the response.

According to sources, some members of the Cabinet are pushing for an appeal of the court ruling, while other members say the ruling should be accepted and immediate efforts made to redraft the legislation to ensure that the provisions do not violate the charter.

The sources say Holness appears to be leaning towards redrafting the legislation.

In other news, a two-year-old girl died while another child was injured in a hit-and-run along the Howard Cooke Highway in St James on Tuesday.

And in sport, the West Indies on Wednesday named star players Chris Gayle and Andre Russell in their 2019 World Cup squad, although all-rounder Kieron Pollard was among those left out.
