O-wrap: Wanted man surrenders… Two held in gun, ganja bust… JET disappointed with carnival cleanup

1. Second suspect in shooting of St James cop surrenders

Brandon Stora, the second suspect in the recent shooting of a police constable, has surrendered to the police.Stora turned himself in on Saturday evening, four days after he was asked by the police to do so.

2. Gov’t to make further investments in national security — Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared that increased investments will be made to improve national security. 

3. Floyd Green leads Jamaica mission at 48th COTED meeting

Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Floyd Green is leading the mission of Jamaica at the two-day 48th meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), which is being held in Georgetown, Guyana starting today.

4. Two held after cops seize ganja, 2 guns in Clarendon

Two people have been arrested in connection with yesterday’s seizure of in two firearms and a quantity of ganja in Portland Cottage, Clarendon.

5. Portland in spotlight again with James Bond movie

The town of Port Antonio, Portland, no stranger to big movies and Hollywood celebrities, is once again in the international spotlight, thanks to the 25th and latest in the iconic James Bond movie series.

6. Water disruptions to affect Hope Pastures, St Thomas — NWC

The National Water Commission (NWC) says mechanical problem linked to damaged equipment are affecting the flow of water to Hope Pastures and sections of St Thomas.

7. Antigua PM claims ‘petty jealousy’ in efforts to prevent 4th UWI campus

 Prime Minister Gaston Browne has criticised some Caribbean countries of harbouring “petty jealousies” for opposing moves by Antigua and Barbuda to become the fourth campus territory of the University of the West Indies (UWI) here in September.

8. CWI facing serious financial difficulties — Skerritt

The financial situation of Cricket West Indies (CWI) is much worse than previously thought, says newly elected president Ricky Skerritt. 

9. JET disappointed with cleanup after carnival

The Jamaica Environmental Trust (JET), this morning expressed disappointment with cleanup efforts after yesterday’s carnival road march. JET said it has received numerous complaints regarding the poor management of solid waste along specific sections of the road march routes. 

10. On-fire Russell ‘hungry’ for World Cup success

All-rounder Andre Russell says there is a renewed hunger to represent West Indies in the upcoming World Cup, especially with his current batting form.
