MONTEGO BAY, St James — Banker Winston Lawson was re-elected unopposed to serve a second-consecutive term as president of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), during its annual general meeting held at the Wexford Hotel last week.

Janet Silvera, Gabrielle Lee and Karlene Maye were elected first, second and third vice-presidents, respectively.

Following his re-election, Lawson immediately expressed concern about the spike in murders in St James, and called for measures to be put in place to immediately address the situation.

“Some immediate concerns are of course the surge in crime, and the unwelcomed delay in addressing and cauterising the worrying trend,” Lawson said.

The MBCCI president also appealed to the powers that be, to ensure that infrastructure work in the pipeline does not result in traffic congestion, similar to what is occurring in sections of Kingston.

“We appeal that the developments which we have been very vocal in calling for — some ongoing and some imminent, we appeal that they are carried out in a manner that minimises as best as possible, the already heavy traffic congestions in the city,” the newly elected MBCCI president advocated.
