St Elizabeth native and former Vere Technical High School star Fabian Allen, who will celebrate his 24th birthday tomorrow (May 7), is among five Jamaicans named in the West Indies 15-man squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup which begins in England at the end of this month.
Allen, a left-arm spinning all-rounder, joins countrymen, star batsman Chris Gayle, all-rounder Andre Russell, as well as fast bowlers Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas in the squad.
Like Allen, Russell and Thomas have strong links to south central Jamaica. Russell, a native of Old Harbour, St Catherine is a past student of Clarendon College while Thomas is a native of Race Course, Clarendon and past student of Race Course Primary and Garvey Maceo High.
Allen and Cottrell are also part of a West Indies squad for a pre-World Cup triangular tournament in Ireland which started yesterday.
