‘Rovers’ take comfortable lead in Sandals Major League semis
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Lilliput Rovers took a big 2-0 lead over Heights FC in their first-leg semi-finals of the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts International Major League at the UDC Field on Tuesday.
An early goal and a fortuitous late one, as well as solid goalkeeping from Nyron Campbell, handed Lilliput Rovers a decisive edge going into next week’s return leg at the same venue.
Lilliput Rovers could have won by a larger margin, but for two misses from inside the six-yard box by striker Jeremy Bucknor late in the game.
Sican Strachan gave Lilliput Rovers the lead in the 12th minute and they held it until the 85th, when an attempted clearance by a Heights FC defender saw his overhead kick hit Terrick Dixon in the head and rebounded into the unguarded goal, past the Heights FC goalkeeper.
