The Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) will host its second race meet for the year titled Circuit Wheels on Fire at the Jamwest Motorsports & Adventure Park in Little Hope, Westmoreland, on Sunday, May 26.

The announcement was made at the Audi Terminal on Oxford Road in Kingston, on Tuesday. The meet deviates from its normal two-day format as it is no longer part of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC).

“This year, the meet is a single-day event because it no longer includes the overseas cars because Jamaica is not participating in the CMRC series this year,” Peter McConnell, chairman of JRDC, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.

The JRDC chairman cited several reasons, including costs of hosting an international meet and the non-alignment of regulations as factors for the change, but has not ruled out a return to the CMRC.

“I hope that once our local circuit racing club is back in a prosperous position as former years, we will again embrace a Caribbean Championship and show our neighbours the awesome talent we have here at home,” said McConnell.

Things are set to start early with qualifying session at 7:30 am, which will then lead into the 14-race programme. As part of a drag strip, the Jamwest circuit offers the racing highest speeds on the island with 1.5 mile front straight. Looking forward to the speed is Kyle Gregg, Doug “Hollywood” Gore and the Lueboyz Racing.

Gregg is confident that each Radical will be able to show its true strength and he should be on top at the end of the day.

“We should see about 147mph, but where others have a higher top speed, the Radicals have the braking and aerodynamic grip for the corners, especially the front one,” Gregg said.

He pointed out that the Radical, with the smallest engine, the SR3 of Myers, was the car on pole at Dover Raceway and was able to win a race. Trinidadian Kristian Boodosingh, another Radical race winner, will return as driver for the Dwight Lue-led Lueboyz Racing. Their plan is simple, not to mess with success. Wanting to break the deadlock at the front is Gore.

According to Rajendra Jadusingh, Hollywood Racing crew chief, the KIA Rio race car has been sorted out and tested at the Jamwest. He and Gore are confident that it has the pace to beat the Radicals.

“We have the top speed, and the aerodynamic changes we made for this year have proven themselves in testing,” Jadusingh said.
