Although there were three winners each for apprentices Christopher Mamdeen and Reyan Lewis on the 13-race programme, it was the Wayne DaCosta-conditioned Uncle Frank who stole the spotlight after upsetting his more fancied rivals to win the top-rated Overnight Allowance event at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Ridden by Jamaica Oaks winning jockey Phillip Parchment, Uncle Frank ( Storm Craft – Dusty Milly) came with a strong run against the inside rails in deep stretch to beat rivals by 3 ½ lengths going 7 furlongs (1,400m).

The focus was placed on My Sister, Mamdam Secretary, Lottery Ticket and Saratoga Sight at the top of the lane as all looked in with a chance but leaving the furlong (200m) pole, Parchment produced his mount and Uncle Frank found room against the inside rails and blew past rivals.

Uncle Frank, who went off at odds 13-1, ran the distance in time of 1:25.4 with splits 23.3, 46.2 and 1:11.4.

Bruce Wayne (Linton Steadman), who also came with a late run, was second at odds of 11-1 and My Sister (Anthony Thomas) third at odds of 9-2.

My Elle Belle (Oneil Mullings) had finished second but was disqualified for causing interference to Lottery Ticket and Saratoga Sight at the furlong pole.

It was the second winner on the card for Parchment as he earlier booted home Eddie’s Princess in the 11th event over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight for owner Carlton Watson and trainer Johnny Wilmot.

The race for the jockey’s championship continued to ignite sparks as Mamdeen and Lewis are bringing home the winners.

Mamdeen winners were Prince Sammo in the first race for trainer Oneil Markland, Virtuoso in the seventh race for trainer Junior Small and Chief of State in the ninth race for trainer Spencer Chung to bring his tally for the season to 35.

Lewis was successful aboard Schlesinger in the third race for breeder, owner and trainer Carl Anderson, Cue Three in the fourth race for trainer Steven Todd and Nuclear Lava in the eighth race for trainer Everal Francis. With those winners, Lewis took his tally to 31 for second place behind Mamdeen.
