Big Bang, after a disappointing third-place finish on last as the 1-5 favourite, looks all set for a rebound in the fourth running of the $900,000 Simply Magic Cup feature at Caymanas Park today.

The Anthony Nunes trainee was some six lengths behind Layu Kawen and Summer Sun going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on April 27. In that race, Big Bang raced somewhat off the leader among the backmarkers for most of the way before trying to gather momentum in the final two furlongs (400m) but was no match for the winner Layu Kawen.

It was only Big Bang‘s second start of his career and so with improvement expected, he should run a better race here as the tongue tie is now declared.

The likes of Summer Sun, Black River and stable companion Tricky One should provide some competition for Big Bang here in the field of eight runners.

The Restricted Allowance event, also venturing over nine furlongs and 25 yards, is the third event on the 10-race card with a post time of 1:50 pm. First race is at 12:40 pm.

Big Bang ( Itsmyluckyday – Galaxy Way) has continued to move nicely at exercise in the mornings and with jockey Robert Halledeen back in the saddle for this cup race, the bay gelding will be hard to deny.

Tricky One was not a factor in that same race where Big Bang finished third, finishing in sixth place by 17 lengths. Prior to that, Tricky One raced in the 2000 Guineas over a mile where he finished in sixth place by six and three quarters of a length and so the potential of winning here is very much a possibility.

Summer Sun is the lone foreigner in the line-up and he will surely enjoy every inch of this trip. He was only defeated by one-half length to Layu Kawen on last where he had Big Bang five-and-three-quarters of a length behind him. This chestnut gelding with the in-form Phillip Parchment in the saddle is expected to deliver his best effort in the straight.

Summer Sun has a good chance of winning, but it is not going to be easy against the improving Big Bang.

Black River did reasonably well when finishing seventh in the Jamaica Oaks (10 furlongs) on May 4. She seems to be better off when going long, meaning that she is going to enjoy running over this distance and this developing sort should be a factor here.

Also on card is an Open Allowance event going 1,300m, foreigners Stranger Danger and Hilly’s Halo are expected to engage in a battle royal.

Stranger Danger is unbeaten in five starts and should continue on that track but he will be tested by Hilly’s Halo every step of the way.
