MUST WIN!
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Granville Primary must beat Irwin Primary in their final quarter-final game at the UDC field today, if they are to continue the defence of their St James Football Association Victoria Mutual Foundation Under-13 title.
Both teams are on three points at the top of the points standings in Group 1 after they both beat DMP Academy, but Irwin Primary lead on goal-difference and need only a draw in their game today to end Granville Primary’s reign and advance to next Tuesday’s semi-finals.
Irwin Primary beat DMP Academy 3-0 in their game on Tuesday, while Granville Primary had beaten then 1-0 last week.
Former champions Chetwood Primary could also secure their place in the semi-finals today with at least a draw against Catadupa in their Group 3 game.
Chetwood Primary and Lethe All-Age are tied on three points, but Lethe All-Age have played their two games and had lost to Chetwood last week.
Barracks Road Primary and Irwin Primary scored important wins earlier this week.
Barracks Road beat Green Pond 2-1 on Monday, while Irwin Primary beat DMP a day later.
In the other game played Tuesday, Lethe All-Age edged Catadupa 1-0 in their Group 3 game, rebounding from their loss to Chetwood Primary last week.
Justin Brown scored the lone goal of the game, for Lethe All-Age as DMP suffered back-to-back losses.
Oshane Young in the 24th minute and Javaughn Anglin in the 39th minute, gave Irwin a 2-0 lead before Devon Moodie scored his joint-league leading seventh goal of the season to secure all three points for his team.
On Monday, Barracks Road Primary stayed on course for a semi-final place after coming from a goal down at half time to score an upset 2-1 win over Green Pond.
Barracks Road Primary trailed at the break against the first round group winners, but scored twice to take the lead in the group.
Jermaine Morris gave Green Pond the lead in the ninth minute, and they held the lead until early in the second half when Ricoy Murray equalised with a well struck left foot volley from close range.
Kevin Hawthorne then gave Barracks Road all three points when he scored from close range in the 45th minute.
