God of Love exploded alongside the inside rails under apprentice and leading rider Christopher Mamdeen after turning for home and ran a timely 1:05.3 for 1,100 metres in a Restricted Stakes for native-bred three-year-olds – non-winners of three on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

The three-year-old gelding’s performance was exemplary but even after the victory, trainer Philip Feanny categorically dismissed any suggestion of Classic participation.

“No, he has no Classic prospect. He is just a nice horse getting somewhere.”

But when you have a horse that is performing as well as God of Love you must feel a sense of satisfaction? “Naturally! The better you do, the better you feel. If you are putting out all the work and you are not getting the result it would make no sense.”

And you may just succeed where others may fail? “Well, that too. An old friend of mine, Mass Joe Watt, once said to me ‘a farmer’s success is measured by his footsteps in his pasture’. So, if you are not doing your work, you will not have the success you crave,” Feanny added.

In registering his third career win from seven starts, God of Love the 9/5 betting option turned the tables on Father Patrick in return for his debut loss earlier in the season. Father Patrick, ridden by Reyan Lewis, was the 4/5 favourite going into the race and finished 2½ lengths second. Rojorn Di Pilot, ridden by Omar Walker, finished third favourite in the field of seven.

Rojorn The Di Pilot set the early fractions of the race and after fading, Father Patrick then took it up before God of Love came on the scene. The fractions were 22.3 and 45.0 flat for the 1,100 metres offering.
