QUEEN Oftheharbour closed the 10-race midweek card at Caymanas Park on Wednesday (June 5) with a winning flurry under claiming apprentice Jordan Barrett to the delight of trainer Donovan Plummer.

Sent off as a 4-1 betting option in the Restricted Allowance V (native-bred four-year-old and upwards – non-winners of two), Barrett made it clear from the start of the race that he was on a mission with an all-out effort from the off, as he swiftly came down from the outside draw to dictate terms on the front end.

After straightening for the drive, Queen Oftheharbour came away from the field for a comfortable 5 ½-length win from the 5/2 chance Cohete Del Exito who, for much of the time before the starter sent them on their way, was locked at odds of 3/1 along with the winner.

It was an otherwise smart victory for Queen Oftheharbour, but what was most pleasing for trainer Plummer was the memorable feat of the apprentice Barrett.

“While the victory was a quite pleasing one, I have this one as special. This is the first race he (Barrett) was winning for me. He is a youth that I apprenticed — I was his apprentice master so, this first win was special,” Plummer extolled.

Then Plummer spoke about his winning charge.

“Well, she’s a nice filly but she had some problems earlier on and I just cooled her out, and with time she got alright — and this type of performance is the result.

“Her next step is non-winners of three and from here. We will watch and see what she prossesses,” Plummer said.
