WHILE many would have considered Fresh Cash ‘s victory in a maiden special weight event on Saturday (June 1) as an upset, not so for his trainer Robert Pearson, who said that it was just “natural progression” which caused his charge to release the maiden tag.

After three starts, Fresh Cash came to life with a second-place finish behind the out-of-class Glitter River on April 22. Fresh Cash was 7 lengths behind the winner over 6 ½ furlongs, in a race clocked in 1:21.1.

Fresh Cash went one better when winning over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m), making most of the running in a dominating 3 ¾-length victory.

Jockey Omar Walker held Fresh Cash in third place at the off behind Latapy (Shane Ellis) and Scoobert (Bebeto Harvey).

Approaching the 5-furlong (1,000m) point in the race, Fresh Cash slipped through to the lead and never looked back. Fresh Cash then opened up on the field running the half mile turn before sprinting off at the top of the lane to win without a fuss.

Latapy was second and Awesome Miracle (Christopher Mamdeen) third, in a final time of 1:34.2.

“We castrated him ( Fresh Cash) because we realised that he was looking at the fillies, and after the castration he started to train really well. However, I think that it is natural progression why he came up trumps today (Saturday).

“I think it was a good performance and I think he will get better with this race, and so I am expecting better things from him down the road,” Pearson offered.
