Any student

of 1990s dancehall is familiar with Hopeton Lindo, the prolific writer who

composed some of that decade’s biggest hit songs. Lindo is also an established

singer known for songs like the underground classic, Territory.

The last 18 months have seen him re-launch his vocal career with considerable success, mainly working with famed production duo, Sly and Robbie. His latest song, In Your Eyes, is a duet with singer Fiona. It is co-produced by the Riddim Twins and Rory Baker on the recently released ‘Pocket Book’ beat.

Eyes is the latest

song by Lindo to enter the Foundation Network chart which covers South Florida

and New York. His previous songs, Hard Ears and Let’s Party, also

made that table.

Lindo, who

has lived in South Florida for more than 20 years, takes his career revival in

stride.

“My songs

are getting more airplay and promotion recently, and it’s paying off now,” he

said, adding that he has never been one to flood the market with songs. “I’ve

always maintained a standard of quality over quantity.”

Lindo, whose career began in the 1980s, got his break with Territory. His greatest triumphs, however, has been as a songwriter. Some of the songs he wrote and co-wrote are Champion Lover by Deborahe Glasgow, Telephone Love by JC Lodge, Slow Down and Rough Neck (Gregory Isaacs and The Mighty Diamonds) and Isaacs’ classic ballad, Red Rose For Gregory.

Hopeton

Lindo is currently working on an EP that is scheduled for release early next

year.
