With no trophy on offer for the second-consecutive race day, today’s 11-race programme at Caymanas Park will once again be highlighted by a Restricted Overnight event over seven furlongs (1,400m).

A good-looking field of 15 capable runners will compete for the $1-million purse in the curtain call event scheduled for 5:20 pm. First post is 11:30 am.

The front runners in the event include Winter Is Coming, My Elle Belle, Capturemyship, Taranis, Madam Secretary, Summer Sun, Wartime and Ricky Ricardo.

The Wayne DaCosta-conditioned Summer Sun was not disgraced in his two runs at this level and should now come into his own and prove the horse to beat. His first race at the Overnight Allowance level was on August 24, 2019, going over the distance of 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) when the American-bred runner came home in third place, 3 ¼ lengths behind Fayrouz and Uncle Vinnie.

He came back with another good effort on September 15, when finishing third behind Toona Ciliata and Uncle Vinnie in the Errol “Big Sub” Subratie Memorial Trophy over one mile (1,600m).

Summer Sun continues to improve with each run and with less to contend with here, can earn his fourth win for the season.

My Elle Belle has been disappointing in recent times but has the capability to turn things around and as such must be given maximum respect in a race of this nature. She was in that same race where Summer Sun finished third behind Fayrouz, some 11 ¼ lengths adrift.

She has exhibited some amount of class in her early racing career and that should come into play now as she is expected to run a very good race with a winning run on the table.

Capturemyship steps up here to compete after an easy 1 ¾-length win in high claiming on last over four furlongs (800m) straight. Installed as the 1-2 favourite, Capturemyship ran the distance in a quick 46.3 seconds. Prior to that he campaigned at Overnight Allowance level with some good efforts and so he can hold his own here and could well repeat under these conditions.

A very interesting runner in the line-up is seven-year-old chestnut gelding Taranis from the stables of Andrew McDonald. He was an upset 9-1 winner on last for the first time since 2016 when he romped home quite easily in an Optional Claiming ($1,000,000 – $850,000) event on September 11 over five furlongs (1,000m) round.

Taranis ran the event in a time of 1:01.1 minutes for his 1 ½-length victory. That run suggested that Taranis is again heading in the right direction and could get home if in the right frame of mind. Has more than an outsider’s’s chance of winning this one.
