Harbour View Football Club (FC) and promoted outfit Vere United FC will be hoping to regain some semblance of form when the two meet in a Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) contest that could go either way at Wembly Centre of Excellence in Clarendon today at 3:30 pm.

Harbour View, with a record of two wins and two losses, currently sit in fifth position on six points, while Vere United are hovering just above the relegation zone in 10th position on three points.

Both teams started like the proverbial house on fire, with Harbour View getting by Mount Pleasant Football Academy 2-1 and Cavalier FC 3-0, while Vere United got a perfect start with a 2-0 win over champions Portmore United.

But both have since withered away, particularly Vere United with three-consecutive losses that led to the demise of previous coach Michael Bennett.

Harbour View, on the other hand, suffered a bruising 7-0 beating to last year’s beaten finalist Waterhouse, followed by a 2-1 loss to champions Portmore United.

However, today’s contest represents an opportunity for both teams to register a morale-boosting win and both will be confident of snatching all three points and understandably so, given their current records.

Despite their current vein of form Vere United can be a tough unit on the day and will prove hard to beat, which would be a delight for their fans, especially playing at home. It is still left to be seen how the coaching change will affect them.

Vassell Reynolds, who was rumoured to be at the helm, explained otherwise, revealing that Paul Surgeon is in fact the man in charge on an interim basis.

“As you are aware, I was there doing some coaching during the Super League and play-offs, but my position presently is to give the Manchester High School football programme my full attention.

“As such, time does not allow me to be involved with the Vere team, the kind of way the stakeholders of the club would want and they understand. But my responsibility is to help the club in structuring, recruitment, development of training programme and technical development,” Reynolds told the Jamaica Observer.

“So what we have done this week is to put in place interim coaches and those coaches will be supported technically by the entire support staff,” he added.

Young striker Xhane Reid, as well as Zain Hylton, Renoir Elliott, Michael Moreland, Swayne Thomas, Michael Moreland and others will be aiming to get the job done for Vere United this time around.

Harbour View, on the other hand, will also be aiming to capitalise on their opponents’ poor run of form to resume winning ways.

But to do so Ezron Simpson, Mark Alves, Bebeto McDonald, Trevor Tingling, Oshane Staple, Tavis Grant, Kevon Farquharson, John Luca Levee, Kemar Bennett, Romario Campbell, Norman Campbell, and Tevin Scott, among others, will be required to be on top of their game.
