#Doha2019: Jamaica remains third in medal tables at the end of day five

Jamaica remained third in the medal count at the end of day five of the World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday.

The island failed to medal on Tuesday, while leaders United States of America and second-placed China, increased their medal count with Kenya joining Jamaica on the number of medals won, but with less quality.

The United States won three more medals on Tuesday to increase their tally to 17, with China winning another two medals to take their overall haul to eight, while Jamaica remain third with two gold and two silver medals.

Kenya have collected two gold and two bronze medals to be fourth in the medal count.

Jamaica’s chance of winning another medal was dented on Tuesday, when strong contender for the title Elaine Thompson pulled out of the women’s 200 metres semi-finals, with Shashalee Forbes failing to make the final that will be contested on Wednesday.

Thompson, it is reported, is suffering from Achilles issues.
