GREEN ISLAND, Hanover — Former champions Rusea’s High lost back-to-back games in the first round for the first time in more than six years after they were ambushed 3-1 by Green Island High in their rescheduled return-round ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup Zone B game played at Green Island yesterday.

Martino Gordon scored a double and Ajay Reid got the other as Green Island avenged their bitter first-round loss two weeks ago. Green Island thus moved up to joint third place with Hopewell High, both on seven points.

The loss came after Rusea’s High were beaten 1-0 by zone leaders Frome Technical, who only need a point from their remaining two games to win the zone.

Meanwhile, Annotto Bay High extended their perfect win streak to six games after a big 9-0 thrashing of Carron Hall in Zone J, defending champions Clarendon College moved clear at the top of Zone H, while there were big wins for Cornwall College, Manning’s School and Browns Town High.

Three games are scheduled to be played today with Zone E leaders St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Munro College raring to go after their games on Tuesday were not played due to inclement weather.

STETHS, who are at the top on 17 points, will host Newell High, who are 10 points behind them, while Munro College in second place on 12 points will be seeking their first win over Lacovia after their first meeting ended in a 1-1 scoreline. Third-placed Maggotty High are away to Black River.

Rasheed Dennis scored six times as Annotto Bay ran roughshod over Carron Hall to take his goal tally to 14 on the season, while Shemar Lattibeaudiere also scored a double.

Clarendon College beat Edwin Allen High 2-1 to stay at the top of Zone H with 10 points, while Lennon High stayed in second place with a 3-0 win over Kellits High.

Fifteen-year-old Kamali Powell scored a hat-trick as Cornwall College blanked Irwin High 6-0 to stay just ahead of Anchovy High on goal difference at the top of Zone A.

Cornwall College rebounded from their first loss of the season on Saturday, to thrash Irwin High as Denyu Ricketts got a brace and Raheim Heaven got his first of the season as they improved to 17 points.

Anchovy beat St James High 2-1 at Jarrett Park, their second win over the former champions this season, in a game that saw two penalties late in the game.

Renaldo Grant gave Anchovy High the lead from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, but Alex Forbes pulled St James level with a penalty of his own in the 89th minute.

Anchovy grabbed the winner in time added when Mark Smith scrambled home a lost ball from a melee in the six-yard box.
