DaCosta looking to sweep feature races on Superstakes weekend
Wayne DaCosta is banking on She’s A Maneater, Stranger Danger, and Mr Universe to come good in their respective Graded Stakes races on LASCO Distributors Limited-sponsored Superstakes weekend of racing at Caymanas Park.
DaCosta saddles She’s A Maneater in the 41st running of the $6 million-iCOOL Juice Drink Superstakes over 10 furlongs (200m), and Stranger Danger in the 6th running of the $2.5 million- Lyrix Soft Drink Invitational Mile on Sunday, October 5, while having Mr Universe competing in the 32nd running of the $3-million LASCO Food Drink Caribbean Championship over six furlongs (1,200m) on Saturday, October 5.
She’s A Maneater in her last race, the Gold Cup on August 31, won by 7 1/2 lengths in a final time of 1:25.0 minutes. She’s A Maneater, who has won the Superstakes for the past two years, has five wins from six starts this season.
“I have two horses in the Superstakes — She’s A Maneater and Hover Craft. She’s A Maneater has been working good going into the race as everything seemed to go with her right now. She is on top of her form and so we’re just hoping for a safe trip around,” DaCosta told The Supreme Racing Guide.
Stranger Danger, who has been touted as the top horse in training at present, is eight from eight and looks all set to make it nine in a row.
“He has been working pretty good also for his assignment. He will be allowing everybody weight now, some 7.0kgs and more and so we’ll see how it goes. We don’t know exactly who will be running yet but when the handicap came out Stranger Danger had 57.0kgs and everybody had 50.0kgs and so we will see how it goes, but I think he is a very talented colt we have good expectations.”
As to the chances of Mr Universe in the Sprint Championship, a race he ran second in last year, DaCosta said his charge could go one better.
“We have two runners in the Caribbean Sprint in Mr Universe and Lottery Ticket. Mr Universe is probably the better one out of the two. Lottery Ticket has promised so much and seemed not to get the job done. Mr Universe coming off a long rest and ran a fantastic race as far as I am concerned the last time out and so in this race, he has to be caught. His chances are excellent,” said DaCosta.
