#Doha2019: Jamaica drop to fourth place in the medals table

Jamaica won a bronze medal on day eight of the World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Friday (Oct 4), but dropped one place in the medals table.

Kenya won a gold medal in the men’s 3,000 steeplechase through Conseslus Kipruito, which took their tally to three gold medals, that enabled them to move from fourth to third, displacing Jamaica. Kenya have also won two bronze medals.

Jamaica have two gold, two silver and three bronze. On Friday, Rushell Clayton ran a personal best of 53.74 seconds to win Jamaica’s only medal on the day in the women’s 400 metres hurdles.

Meanwhile, the USA distanced themselves at the top of the table as they won three more medals on Friday, to take their overall tally to 21.

Dalilah Muhammad defeated Clayton in the women’s 400 metres hurdles to win the gold medal for the USA with a world record time of 52.16 seconds, with teammate Sydney McLaughlin taking the silver medal. The USA also won a bronze in the men’s 400 metres through Fred Kerley. China, second in the medals table, failed to medal on Friday and remained on nine medals with three gold, three silver and three bronze.
