Outrage after black woman is killed in her Texas home
Just weeks after Amber Guyger was
sentenced to 10 years for killing Botham Jean in his apartment, a black woman
was shot and killed by a white policeman in her home in Forth Worth, Texas.
The 28-year-old woman, Atatiana
Koquice Jefferson, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the bedroom of her home.
It said that the woman was killed
after a neighbour called the dispatcher to report that the woman’s front door
was open.
BUZZ understands that the woman was
shot when the officers were searching the perimeter of her home. It is believed
that they saw a person standing near the window and opened fire, killing her.
It is believed that she was at home
playing video games with her eight-year-old nephew when the police arrived.
Since the incident, many persons in
the United States have expressed outrage.
“#BothamJean killed in his house in Dallas. #AtatianaJefferson killed in her house in Fort Worth. A house should be a sanctuary from terror. Legal Lynching must be punished. First-degree murder must be punished,” Rev Jesse Jackson said on Twitter on Sunday.
A similar sentiment was shared by
the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
“UNACCEPTABLE! The acts of yet another “trained” police officer have resulted in the death of #AtatianaJefferson. Gun downed in her own home. If we are not safe to call the police, if we are not safe in our homes, where can we find peace? We demand answers. We demand justice,” the NAACP tweeted on Saturday.
