Over $5m in drugs seized, 6 arrested in separate busts
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The narcotics police seized over $5 million worth of drugs in separate incidents during a 12-hour period, beginning at 6:00 pm yesterday.
The constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said six people were arrested in connection with the seizures.
Two of the men were arrested in the first incident, which took place in Mammee Bay, St Ann.
According to CCU, the police found 6.69 pounds of cocaine hidden inside the car the two were travelling.
Then in Kingston, two men — one of whom the police said is British — were arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.
The British man was reportedly found with 2.4 pounds of cocaine concealed in his luggage, while a Jamaican man was arrested after a police canine made an alert.
A search was conducted, which reportedly revealed five pounds of ganja.
Another two people were arrested when lawmen carried out an anti-narcotics operation in Portmore, St Catherine, where they seized 16 pounds of ganja.
The CCU said the identities of the six individuals are being withheld pending further investigations.
