Manning Cup second round begins

The second round of the Digicel/ISSA Manning Cup schoolboy football competition will begin on Wednesday (Oct 23) with four matches at two venues.

At Spanish Town Prison Oval, Eltham will oppose St Andrew Technical High (STSTHS) at 1:00 pm with St Catherine High playing Wolmer’s Boys’ School at 3:00 pm while at Stadium East, Vauxhall will oppose defending champions Kingston College (KC) at 2:00 pm and Holy Trinity battle Camperdown at 4:00 pm.

Wednesday’s most interesting encounter should be the second match at Prison Oval, where No 8-ranked Wolmer’s will battle No 9-ranked St Catherine High. The ranking is based on a points system developed by the competition’s organisers ISSA, in which teams carry-over points from last year’s competition depending on the position they finished and then get a point for each victory secured this year.

Wolmer’s finished second in Group E to Jamaica College as St Catherine also ended second in Group C behind STATHS. Wolmer’s are unbeaten while drawing four of their 12 matches, with St Catherine losing once. They drew two of 10 matches.
