Waterhouse, Olympic Gardens score big wins in Women’s Premier League

DEFENDING champions Waterhouse FC as well as Olympic Gardens FC went on a goal-scoring rampage as the 2019 Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Lascelles Employees and Partners Co-operative Credit Union Women’s Premier League competition continued last Saturday.

Waterhouse hammered Trelawny Women’s FC 16-0 at Drewsland Mini Stadium, while Olympic Gardens pounded Real Mona FC 8-0 at Cling Cling Oval.

Shantel Bailey continued her goal-scoring feast for Waterhouse with a six-timer to join Rena Gordon from Cavalier FC on 18 goals, while teammate Davia Richards, who netted a hat-trick in the 15th, 25th, and 38th minutes, moved her tally to 15 goals.

Waterhouse’s other goals were scored by Nevillegail Able in the 20th minute, Kerona Williams in the 23rd, Latoya Duhaney (26th), Rochell Gray (33rd), Chevin Blair (67th), Akelia Johnson (83rd), and Tiny Seaton in the 88th minute.

Smith from Waterhouse was shown the red card for preventing a player the opportunity of scoring.

At Cling Cling Oval: Olympic Gardens FC drubbed Real Mona FC 8-0 to remain in second position in Zone A with 17 points from seven games behind leaders Waterhouse FC.

The goal scorers for Olympic Gardens were Renee Scott with two goals in the fifth and 15th minutes, Ashlee Sawyers in the 18th, Shanique Smith (48th), Stephanie Morgan (53rd), Tatyana Pollack (65th), Kevena Reid (75th), and Monique Pryce in the 80th minute. Olympic Gardens led 3-0 at half time.

Reid is the leading scorer for Olympic Gardens with 10 goals. Both Olympic Gardens and Waterhouse are unbeaten and are yet to play their second-round encounter. The two played to a 1-1 draw in the first round.

At Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex: Sherika Williams netted the lone goal of the match in the 47th minute to give Arnett Gardens FC a 1-0 win over Zone B leaders Cavalier FC, who were suffering their first defeat. Cavalier had won the first-round meeting 2-0 at Alpha Institute.

Arnett Gardens remain in second position from the win on 19 points from seven outings, while Cavalier FC remain Zone B leaders on 24 points from nine starts.

At UWI Bowl, Mona: Goals from Sherona Forrester and Crystal Walters in the fifth and 47th minutes, respectively, gave the University of the West Indies (UWI) Women’s FC a 2-1 win over Frasziers Whip FC. Diadrian Munroe scored for the losers in the 50th minute.

At St Mary Sports Complex: Northern Queens FC registered their second win from nine matches by crushing Rangers FC 7-0 in a Zone B encounter. Two goals from Shawnakay Cross in the 39th and 75th minutes, Ashanti Lewis in the first and 88th minutes, Laquesha Wright (52nd), Allecia Douse (73rd penalty), and Ashanique Willis in the 90th+1 minute from a free kick, were on target for the victors.

At Royal Lakes Playing Field: Real Mobay AFC and hosts Royal Lakes FC played to a goalless result in their Zone A encounter.

Olympic Gardens will play Waterhouse at Cling Cling Oval, Trelawny FC oppose Royal Lakes FC at Elletson Wakeland Centre, and Frasziers Whip take on Arnett Gardens FC at Owen Palmer Community Centre in rescheduled games today beginning at 3:00 pm.
