Prime minister meets with elite group of business leaders in New York
Prime Minister Andrew Holness while on mission in New York for the 2019 Hummingbird Gala, to which he was a special guest, met with an elite group of business leaders spearheaded by the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) to discuss matters relating to Jamaica’s economic development.
At a breakfast event staged by the entity, an elite group of business leaders and company directors engaged in discussions with an aim to provide opportunities to introduce Jamaica at the very highest level facilitate business exposure and ultimately bring outside investments into the country.
Over breakfast, the prime minister was able to review Jamaica’s plans to extend economic development across the island with these business and philanthropic leaders.
A news release stated that “the meeting provided the Jamaican prime minister with the ability to explain what steps the Jamaican people have taken to open their country up for foreign investment and economic development. It also allowed for an overview to be provided on the role the Jamaican Diaspora has on American and Jamaican economic development. The prime minister was able to gain insight on potential new investments that could be made in the country”.
The release also noted that from the discussions, business connections were formed and business leaders were informed on all the growing opportunities for American businesses in Jamaica.
Paula Campbell Roberts, an AFJ board member said that the breakfast meeting with the prime minister provided a great platform for people in the Diaspora to have direct knowledge and connection with what is taking place in the country.
“The AFJ breakfast with Prime Minister Holness was an outstanding opportunity for American business leaders to engage directly with the Jamaican Government on how best to invest in Jamaica’s tremendous growth engine,” she said.
The AFJ is a philanthropic organisation established to render assistance in the areas of education, health care and economic development. The entity works in a collaborative effort with Jamaican organisations and stakeholders to bring about change in the lives of Jamaicans in need.
