Last year’s Diamond Mile provided jockey Robert Halledeen with his biggest ever success in the pigskin when he piloted the Robert Pearson-trained Will In Charge to victory by the shortest of margins over Bigdaddykool.

In the lead-up to this year’s edition of the Diamond Mile, the enigmatic Halledeen was slated to partner the Anthony Nunes-conditioned top-rated stayer, Bigdaddykool.

That mission had to be changed after the untimely demise of Bigdaddykool following an exercise gallop, thereby forcing Halledeen to search for another Diamond Mile ride.

Halledeen has responded and is now set to mount-up on the Ian Parsard-trained Superluminal.

While Halledeen is comfortable riding Superluminal, he is worried that after winning the Diamond Mile last year he has not yet received his winner’s trophy.

“Yes, it is true that I have not yet received my Diamond Mile Trophy from last year and I will like to receive it before they present this year’s trophy to the new winner,” Halledeen revealed with a half-smile on his face.

Halledeen then gave Diamond Mile and his mount Superluminal.

“ Superluminal is a good ride for me to be competitive as he has quality and with Superluminal going over a distance that he is capable, he can put in a good performance in keeping with his current form and that makes me feel quite encouraged.

“It is quite possible to get something out of the race with Superluminal as he is a tough customer who never says die and he likes to fight on, and as I said before it is a distance that he will enjoy and is expected to be competitive throughout.

“I am quite pleased with the Diamond Mile. It is a race that I had prepared for both physically and mentally, as I have always done to meet the occasion and especially for this one with so many top-performing horses and jockeys present,” Halledeen ended.
