Defending National Football League (NFL) champions the New England Patriots entered Week 9 with an 8-0 record, having scored the most points (250) and allowed the least (61), then they met the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) on Sunday night and everything changed following a 37-20 defeat.

On a weekend where the home teams won 11 of the 14 games played, the Patriots visited the Ravens and not only trailed at half time for the first time this season, they didn’t score in the first quarter and allowed a scoring drive on the opponent’s first possession — a recipe for disaster.

Baltimore took the lead on their opening drive and kept it for the entire game, stunning New England and leaving the San Francisco 49ers as the only remaining team without a loss.

The Patriots (8-1), with ambitions of a perfect season out of the way, will use their bye week to regroup while the Ravens will be salivating in anticipation of their Week 10 matchup against the winless Cincinnati Bengals.

The Ravens are at home and enter the game as JustBet 11-point favourites with the league’s top-ranked offense and run-game to face a defence and run-game that sits at number 32. Surely, if Baltimore can deflate the New England contingent, Cincinnati should provide very little resistance.

The Jets are playing at home this weekend against their cross-river neighbours, the New York Giants (2-7), who tackled the Dallas Cowboys (5-3) last Monday night and were thoroughly overwhelmed (37-18). The Giants are only 3-point JustBet favourites entering the contest but should easily overcome a very weak Jets’ resistance.

The Cowboys will be thoroughly tested when they welcome the Minnesota Vikings (6-3) this Sunday night in possibly the game of the weekend. The Vikings were beaten 23-26 by a Patrick Mahome-less Kansas City Chiefs (6-3) last weekend but that does not change the fact they are a genuine play-off contender.

The Cowboys are at home and approach the weekend as JustBet 3-point favourites but these teams are equally matched and the game could go either way. The result should rest on the team that makes the least mistakes and possibly the one with possession of the ball in the last minute.

A bonafide shock result occurred last weekend when the Green Bay Packers (7-2) lost 11-26 to the Los Angeles Chargers (4-5). Green Bay quarterback (QB) Aaron Rodgers managed only 161 passing yards and the whole team looked substandard for most of the game. Unfortunately, there is no let up as the Packers welcome a more talented Carolina Panthers (5-3) team on Sunday, who are yet to lose on the road.

However, the Packers are 6-point JustBet favourites and should rebound from last week’s loss and get back to winning ways.

The feature game of Week 10 will take place on Monday night between the San Francisco 49ers (8-0) and the Seattle Seahawks (7-2).
