Two-year-old Fearless Champion shows early potential
The Wayne DaCosta-conditioned Fearless Champion scored an emphatic win on Saturday, November 2 to announce his presence among this year’s two-year-old lot.
Racing for the second time, Fearless Champion put away rivals in Division Two of a maiden special weight contest over four furlongs (800m) straight.
The Fearless Vision offspring came from behind to win by five lengths in a time of 47.2 in the capable hands of six-time champion jockey Omar Walker.
“ Fearless Champion is a nice colt and he seems to have his heart in the right place. He was unfortunate on debut when he finished in third place by seven lengths.
“He got sand in his eyes early in the race and never recovered from that incident. Today (Saturday), he was early in the pace, and got going from two furlongs and it was an easy performance for him,” DaCosta shared.
As to his participation in the Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy, the second leg in the Supreme Ventures Limited-sponsored Two-Year-Old Triple Crown series later this month, DaCosta said his charge should be in the race.
“We’re hoping for the best. We are hoping that he can go 10 furlongs or eight furlongs as his mother, Granville Greta who was second or third in the Jamaica Oaks and so it is all systems go right now. If Fearless Champion keeps sound and healthy, he will likely go in the Pick-3,” the trainer informed.
Native Gold (Shane Ellis), the 4-5 odds on favourite, dashed into the lead at the off but after completing two furlongs (400m) she gave way and Fearless Champion took up the running and powered home.
Newcomer Danny Spud (Shamaree Muir) who chased Native Gold, came through for second place with another first-timer Billiejo (Christopher Mamdeen) in third.
