Jamaica Fire Brigade estimates $35m damage from fire at Mandeville Parish Court
The fire at the Mandeville Parish Court in Manchester Thursday morning (Nov 7) did damage estimated by the Jamaica Fire Brigade at J$35 million.
The
judge’s chambers and a section of the roof were the areas damaged by the fire,
which is being investigated by personnel from the fire brigade that includes a
team from Kingston.
The
fire started after 4:00 am Thursday morning at the facility, which is a
designated national heritage site. It is a Georgian-style structure, which was
built in the 19th century.

It
resulted in the cases that should have been heard on Thursday, being
rescheduled.
The
high-profile multimillion-dollar Manchester Municipal Corporation fraud trial
that was taking place at the court has been shifted to the Porus courthouse,
also in Manchester.
