Barbados police burn drugs
The Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) on Friday destroyed marijuana and cocaine at an incinerator in Bridgetown.
A
total of 18,139 marijuana plants collected throughout the year and an
additional 871.60 pounds, as well as eight pounds of cocaine, were
burned.
According
to public relations officer of the RBPF, Inspector Rodney Inniss, 1,495 plants
were from Holetown Station in the Northern Division.
Inniss warned Barbadians that possessing and growing marijuana is still illegal, despite discussions taking place for legalisation for medicinal and sacramental use.
He
said, “some persons have been commenting about the legalisation. At this stage,
having and growing marijuana is still illegal in Barbados and the Royal
Barbados Police Force has a responsibility to do the necessary (things).
“It
is still a crime and persons will be charged for harvesting and transshipping
of drugs wherever it is discovered,” Inniss said.
