Sir Edward Zacca passes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Chief Justice of Jamaica Sir Edward Zacca died this morning after a long illness. He was 88.
Sir Edward was knighted by The Queen in her 2015 Birthday Honours list, “for services to the Courts of Appeal in Bermuda, Turks & Caicos Islands and Cayman Islands”.
He served as President of the Court of Appeal of the Bahamas from March 2000 to July 2001.
On January 2, 1985, he was sworn in as Chief Justice of Jamaica by Governor General Sir Florizel Glasspole.
Sir Edward was accepted by the UK Privy Council on September 1, 1992. He was the fourth Caribbean Chief Justice to be appointed to the Privy Council and the first from Jamaica.
He attended Kingston College from 1941 – 1947.
Sir Edward is survived by his wife Hope Margaret and his children Christopher, Edward Jr and Karen.
