All set for Sabina Park Fight Night
Yesterday , the Jamaica Pegasus poolside was the scene of the weigh-in for the Sabina Park Fight Night. All the boxers, except Francisco Slivens out of the Dominican Republic, were weighed and put through their final medicals. Slivens is to arrive in the island by 8:00 am today. His late arrival is due to visa issues in his home country.
The card will feature two title bouts, one heavyweight bout, one local bout and three amateur bouts, including one female matchup. The proceedings will begin with the amateur bouts and end with the heavyweight bout between Vladimir Tereskin and Francisco Slivens.
The title fights will feature Yurik Mamedov (Russia) versus Eduardo Cardoves (Venezuela) — WBA Fedecaribe (regional title). The welterweight fight is set for nine rounds.
Carlos Dixon (USA) is also set to face Edinson Torres — WBC (youth silver title). That lightweight bout is set for eight rounds.
Mamedov tipped the scales at 129.2 lbs; Cardoves, 129.2 lbs; Dixon, who defeated Jamaica’s Toreano Nicholas, weighed 129.6 lbs; and Torres at 128.6 lbs. Heavyweight boxer Tereskin came in at 256.2 lbs. His opponent Slivens’ weight is unknown at this time. He will be weighed this morning. Their fight will be the final bout tonight in a 10-round matchup.
The female boxers showed a disparity in weight. Lisa Frazer was 130.8 lbs, while Britney McFarlane tipped the scale at 142. They will go against each other for three rounds.
The opening bell will see Daniel Hylton, at 137 lbs, taking on army man Marvin Shea, who weighed 134 lbs. John Lewis (153 lbs) and Dwayne Lawrence (148 lbs) will duel in the other amateur bout.
The amateur section is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm, while the pro section gets under way at 7:00 pm, with the audience seated in the North Stand of Sabina Park.
