FORMER Jamaica’s national Olympic and World Championships 100 metres hurdles representative Brigitte Foster-Hylton won her first singles title at the two-day WATA Amateur Tennis Championships at Liguanea Club in New Kingston recently.

Foster-Hylton, who has been playing tennis seriously over the past three years, defeated second Racquel Nevins in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, to capture the Ladies ‘B’ title.

In the semi-finals, top-seed Foster-Hylton defeated Allison Watson-Jones 6-2, 6-2, while second-seed Nevins beat Malaika Masson 7-5, 6-2.

Unseeded Gregory Spencer was the winner of the Men’s Class Two singles title beating unseeded Leighton Burton in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. In the semi-finals, Spencer knocked out second-seed Garth Darby in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, while Burton eliminated top seed Adrian Armstrong 3-8, 6-1, 10-7 in the super tie-breaker set.

Second-seed Richard McNair defeated unseeded Michael Lyncook 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 in the super tie-breaker set to capture the Men’s Class Three singles title.

In the semi-finals, McNair came from a set down to beat fourth-seeded Leopold Fungsang 1-6, 6-1, 10-5 in the super tie-breaker set, while Lyncook knocked out top seed Ricardo Livingston 6-2, 2-6, 11-9 in the super tie-breaker set.
