SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Former champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) will be seeking spots in both the ISSA Rural Area Under 14 and Under 16 boys football competitions when they host a big quarter-final double header at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex, set to start at 1:45 pm today.

STETHS are the only school with teams in both competitions but face a tough task against two good teams, playing defending champions Garvey Maceo High in the Under 14 game then Clarendon College in the Under 16.

Three of the eight spots across both competitions have already been taken, Clarendon College in the Under 16 and Vere Technical and Belair High in the Under 14 after they all won their first two games in the quarter-finals and cannot finish lower than second place.            

In the Under 16 section, STETHS who are coming off a 4-0 win over Ocho Rios High on Wednesday but faces a Clarendon College team that won both games by 3-0 margins and need only a draw to top Zone 1.

A draw would also suit STETHS who cannot afford to lose as Petersfield High on one point faces an out of contention Ocho Rios High who have conceded seven goals in their two games played so far.       

A loss for STETHS and a big win for Petersfield would see the latter take second place.  

Zone Two is wide open but Rusea’s High on four points and a plus-six goal-difference after beating Denbigh High 6-0 in Lucea on Wednesday, needs at least a point against Titchfield High to book their spot.  

The winner of the game between Denbigh High on three points and Munro College on one point, could advance as second place if Rusea’s High win their game.     

Denbigh High beat Titchfield 4-0 on Monday but cannot play for a draw at Munro as both teams have negative goal-differences.

With bot spots in Zone Two of the Under 14 already decided, all four teams in Zone One are still in contention for the two spots to Tuesday’s semi-finals. 

Defending champions Garvey Maceo, fresh from their hard fought 2-1 win over Cornwall College in Montego bay on Wednesday, will face a STETHS team who must win to make sure of their spot.      

Cornwall College had beaten STETHS on Monday but came up short against Garvey Maceo on Wednesday, will be home against Happy Grove who despite not winning any games so far and are on one point, are not out of contention.            

Happy Grove has scored four goals in their two games but have also conceded six, by far the most of any of the four teams in the Zone.
