We need to save what we have
Dear Editor,
For the last few months we have been going into Port Royal working towards a spay and neuter clinic for the stray animals with Tourism Enhancement Fund. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some truly wonderful people.
Port Royal is a rare gem in a bustling, chaotic world. This town shows us exactly what Jamaica used to be like.
The history is incredible, the people are real.
To find out some will lose their homes to make way for the clean, sterile environment that apparently visitors to the island need to see is disappointing.
How about the fact that people actually come to Jamaica to see the real Jamaica and meet the real Jamaicans?
Our contact there has been in his home for 20 years — 20 years! What now? Don’t you think his rustic style, environmentally friendly way of living is something we should be promoting?
Time to stop following the trend and start leading towards saving what we have.
