Second COVID-19 patient died in Trinidad; Tobago confirms second case
The twin-island republic of Trinidad and
Tobago has confirmed its second COVID-19 related death.
The Ministry of Health made the
announcement on Friday (March 27). The patient was an elderly man with
pre-existing medical conditions.
To maintain patient confidentiality and to
allow the family the space to grieve, the Ministry has not released any
additional details.
Meanwhile in Tobago, a healthcare worker
has tested positive for COVID-19, making it the island’s second case.
The patient, who works at the Scarborough
General Hospital, has been isolated and is being closely monitored. As per
protocol, the individual will be transferred to Trinidad to undergo additional
treatment.
According to the Tobago Division of Health,
Wellness and Family the hospital will be deeply sanitised and scheduled,
regular cleaning and disinfection will continue, along with contact-tracing
efforts.
At present, 453 samples have been sent to the
Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) for testing; 66 have tested positive
for the virus.
Forty-seven of those who tested positive
came from the group of nationals who recently returned from a cruise. One
patient thus far has recovered and discharged from the hospital.
