PNP to recap budget debate highlights at press conference
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP) will recap highlights of the Budget Debate presentations of Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding and Spokesperson on Finance, Planning and the Public Service, Julian Robinson, at a press conference this morning.
The two, who recently made their contributions to the 2021/22 Budget Debate, will be joined by Dr Morais Guy, spokesperson on health and wellness; Senator Peter Bunting, spokesperson on national security; Dr Angela Brown-Burke, spokesperson on education and training; and Dr Dayton Campbell, general secretary.
Yesterday Golding, among other points, accused the Government of a “tight embrace with fiscal conservatism” in its proposed 2021/22 expenditure budget.
He said that, with a devastating crisis facing Jamaicans, the budget was a “timid and inadequate” response.
Last week, Robinson also urged the Government to be bold and beef up the proposed 2021/22 budget by one per cent of the country’s gross domestic product, or $21.5 billion.
He said the Jamaican economy will grow faster if there is greater spend, as he responded to Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke’s opening contribution to the 2021/22 budget debate.
The other PNP spokespersons have also called for greater transparency, and more action, as it relates to the areas of health, education and national security.
