New COVID-19 infections in Jamaica continue on downward trajectory
Jamaica on Friday (June 18) recorded less than 50 new COVID-19 infections, with the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic March 2020 now at 49,356.
According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, five parishes recorded no new cases of the virus, with only St James and St Catherine reporting more than ten new infections.
In addition, the country has reported three new fatalities from the virus:

[naviga:li]A 37 year old female from St. Mary[/naviga:li]
[naviga:li]A 55 year old male from Kingston & St. Andrew[/naviga:li]

Since late May 2021, the country has been seeing a decline in the number of new infections, with a positivity rate that continues to plummet.
According to the ministry, the country’s positivity rate now stands at 4.6% .
To date Jamaica has 19,743 active COVID-19 cases; 128 people remain in hospital.
