GQ Gentlemen’s Grooming Lounge

GQ Gentlemen’s Grooming Lounge was opened on the premise of ‘Where Hair Meets Luxury’ in September 2019 inside Fairview Marketplace in Montego Bay.

The entity’s principal, Dane Gordon, explains that he wanted a facility where men could enjoy premium talent and service.

“I created the gentlemen’s lounge so that males could have access to a premium facility, where self-care is concerned; no longer should males subject themselves to a mediocre barber salon. From the outset we decided great service would be the driving force for our business added with topnotch talent, that we envisioned would separate us from the pack,” Gordon explained.

“Since we’ve been open, the market has responded to us quite favourably. This is based on the niche of the product and how we’ve changed the game on how the traditional barber shop environment is perceived. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic our customers still show up to get their usual grooming experience. I think that’s a testament to how well we are serving our customers,” Gordon added.

Gordon also shared plans for expansion and the services that are among the top requests from his clients.

“Currently, our main product offering is barbering services, which feature a wide range of haircuts on different hair types; whether it’s in-house or house calls. We plan to expand our current offerings soon to facilitate a full-fledged spa experience, to include manicure and pedicure, in addition to facials, being the point of focus when the buildout and expansion are complete,” said Gordon.

“Hairstyles such as the faded haircut continue to trend, and more so a lot of men are joining the bearded family, so having a nicely groomed beard is the in thing. I’ve noticed there’s a high request for colouring of the hair and that’s become a very popular service at the lounge, as well,” Gordon added.

He believes that for too long grooming spaces have not been created with an emphasis on comfort and style to cater to men.

“You find that males just want a quality place to lounge whilst getting a haircut; they don’t want the excess noise. Ever so often females will frequent the lounge wanting their spouse to get a haircut and afterwards a manicure and pedicure. I think they are trying to open the minds of the men to that type of experience. Once they come across this premium grooming experience with fine style and great service, they’ll want to make us there their preferred selfcare and wellness spot,” Gordon argued.
