Jamaica records 76 COVID cases, two deaths in one day
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Health and Wellness is reporting that 76 Jamaicans tested positive for the COVID-19 yesterday.
This pushed the total number of confirmed cases on the island since the outbreak to 50,242.
The new cases comprise 39 females and 37 males with ages ranging from 84 days to 90 years.
According to the ministry, 24 of the cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew, 10 in St Elizabeth, nine in Westmoreland, eight in St James, seven each in St Catherine and St Ann, four each in Hanover and Manchester, two in Clarendon, and one in Trelawny.
Meanwhile, a 54-year-old female from Kingston and St Andrew and an 84-year-old female from St Ann were the virus’ latest victims, pushing the country’s death toll to 1,082.
Another death was also reported under investigation.
The ministry further reported 119 new recoveries, which pushed the total recoveries to 30,311. There are 18,487 active cases on the island.
