Frome Tech secure U-16 football semi-final berth
Frome Technical have secured the first spot in the semi-finals of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association
(ISSA) rural area Under-16 football competition after winning their first two games in the quarter-final round.
Frome Technical’s six points in Zone Two cannot be overtaken after the other teams failed to win any of their two games. Vere Technical are in second place on two points, while defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Seaforth High are on one point. Each team has one game left, to be played on Wednesday.
Only the winners of each of the four zones will qualify for the semi-finals. Three other schools, Cornwall College in Zone One, Garvey Maceo High and Irwin High in Zone Three and Manchester High in Zone Four have won their first two games.
On Tuesday at Frome, Stevaughn Spence scored a hat-trick to lead Frome Technical to a big 5-2 win over STETHS which ended their title defence.
Dwayne Watt and Javani Plummer also scored for Frome Technical, who had beaten Seaforth High 2-1 in their previous game.
On Monday, Conrad Daley and Kiefer Grant scored for Cornwall College as they beat hosts Christiana High 2-1 in Manchester. Cornwall had previously beaten Clarendon College by the same scoreline last Monday in Montego Bay.
On Wednesday, Irwin High came from a goal down at home to beat Port Antonio High 2-1 to join Garvey Maceo High at the top of Zone Three, as Garvey Maceo beat Munro College 3-0 in St Elizabeth.
Twayne Lopez gave Port Antonio High the lead over Irwin High in the fourth minute, but Detroy Reid levelled the scores in the eighth minute before Damario Russell got the winner for the St James-based school in the 52nd minute.
St James High held high-flying Glenmuir High 0-0 at Cornwall College on Monday. But after being beaten by Manchester High in their first quarter-final round game and back-to-back wins for Manchester, their hopes of advancing are over.
In other games, Clarendon College kept their slim hopes of advancing alive with a 2-0 win over Charlemont High, while Manchester High beat Dinthill Technical 4-0 and Vere Technical and Seaforth drew 1-1.
