A new album is on the way for veteran hitmaker and dancehall star Beenie Man.

He shared information on the upcoming project with the Jamaica Observer on Sunday at the popular retro party Yush, which was being held for the first time in over two years due to COVID-19.

Although keeping the details close to his chest Beenie Man noted that the tracks are all laid and he is just awaiting the green light from his record company.

“Next for Beenie Man will be my album Simms. It’s now complete and I’m only awaiting a release date from VP Records,” he disclosed.

It has been some time since the Grammy-winning deejay released an album. His last solo studio project was 2006’s Undisputed, which contained popular tracks including Hmm Hmm, Heart Attack, Chacka Dance, Beenie Man [with his then wife D’Angel], and Girls, a collaboration with hip-hop star Akon.

He won the Best Reggae Album Grammy in 2001 for Art and Life.

The significance of Sunday’s performance at Yush which was held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew, was not lost on the 48-year-old deejay.

“Its feels nice [and] beautiful that the entertainment industry has reopened. This will definitely boost the economy of the island,” the deejay told the Observer after his performance.

“This is not my first show since the industry has opened, but it’s my first concert. I thank God for giving me health and strength to be able to be here tonight. It feels tremendous to be able to see and perform for my Jamaican people again,” he added.

The selectors at Yush were Arif Cooper and Kurt Riley while sound sytems were Coppershot and Stone Love.

Patrons enjoyed the event which is one of many live gigs since Government announced a relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions in March and reopened the entertainment industry.

“It feels amazing to be back outside partying without my mask like a regular Jamaican. It’s the first party that I have attended and the vibes feel right. My highlight was Beenie Man’s performance. I enjoyed hearing him singing Back It Up and seeing him dancing. Big up, Beenie Man and Yush family,” realtor Kalefia Bryan told the Observer.
