Blake and Burchell lead 100m qualifiers at Velocity Fest
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former World Champion, Yohan Blake, and Remona Burchell, lead the qualifiers for the men’s and women’s 100 metre at the Velocity Fest 11 held at the National Stadium on Saturday.
Blake ran a season’s best 10.13 seconds (2.0m/s) to win his preliminary round heat while his Titans Track Club teammate Ackeem Blake was next best with 10.15 seconds (1.1m/s) and former national champion Oshane Bailey equalling his season’s best with 10.18 seconds (1.4m/s).
Kadrian Goldson 10.21 seconds (2.0m/s) and Sachin Dennis with a wind aided 10.27 seconds (2.9m/s) also advanced.
Meanwhile, Burchell ran a wind-aided 11.23 seconds (2.2m/s) to lead the women’s qualifying, ahead of Jodean Williams 11.55 seconds (2.2m/s), Krystal Sloley 11.84 seconds (2.2m/s) and Immaculate Conception schoolgirl, Mickaila Haisley 11.85 seconds (2.2m/s).
