Move over Instagram and make way for BeReal, a social media app that has seen massive growth this year, with its user base increasing by a massive 315 per cent compared to 2021, according to data from Apptopia.
BeReal gives its users a two-minute window every day to share an actual snippet of their lives. No filters, no editing, no glamour shot. The notification comes at a random time each day. If you miss the upload, your friends will get a little note showing how late you were.
The promo for BeReal in the App Store says if you want to be famous, “you can stay on TikTok and Instagram.” BeReal has spread rapidly since it hit app stores two years ago. Sixty-five per cent of its 500 million total lifetime downloads occurred this year alone.
